ANNUAL MEETING, PLAY-IN, ELECTION, AND FIDDLE CLASS
The annual meeting was new and exciting this year. Held at the Brentwood
library on May 15,
over 70 students and their families squeezed into the conference room. A
wonderful play-in
performance took place including some great fiddle tunes. This year we had a
few cello students
attend - a welcome sight for our growing MTSA Suzuki community. Debbie Lowry
was
accompanist for the Suzuki pieces. Teacher leaders for Suzuki pieces
included Katherine
Mansouri, Deidre Bacco, Sherry Merideth, Cheri Beckerman, and Frank Auer.
Unfortunately
Dana Meyer, our president, was out sick and couldn’t participate in this
event.
Crystal Plohman was our guest fiddle teacher and led a class on her fiddle
tune arrangements;
Irish Canon/Tam Lyn and Oh Susanna, accompanied by Suzuki dads Robert
Bennett on guitar
and Rob Howard on piano. These were fantastic pieces and the students
sounded great! We are
very fortunate to have the opportunity to play her tunes. Congratulations to
all the students
and the practice they put into the music.
At the voting and membership table, many new members were added to the MTSA.
Some
members opted to renew at an early $2 discount for the following years’
membership. Also at
the voting table was a volunteer form. Volunteers will be contacted when the
need arises. Amy
Helman manned (or womanned) the election table. Election was done by ballot
and many
people voted as they walked in. Candidates for the “at large” board members
were Amy
Helman, Frank Auer, Robin Eckert, Anna Lisa Hoepfinger, and Cheri Beckerman.
Their bios were
posted by the door. All the candidates were present and the election results
were very close.
The three elected members ended up being Anna Lisa Hoepfinger, Robin Eckert,
and Cheri
Beckerman. Katherine Mansouri stepped down off the board but will remain an
active part of
the organization. The board handed her a gift and thanked her for her
continuous support and
all the work she has done and continues to do for the MTSA. Announcements
were made at
the annual meeting about upcoming events and information such as the
workshop in the fall.
We look forward to more successful annual meeting events in MTSA’s future.
DAY OF MUSIC A SUCCESS!
NEXT DAY OF MUSIC SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER
MTSA students were represented again in the Nashville Symphony/Regions, FREE
DAY OF
MUSIC Event, on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
About 70
students performed in the main lobby of the concert hall, accompanied by
Debbie Lowry, Rob
Howard & Robert Bennett. MTSA teachers, Frank Auer, Deidre Bacco, Kysha
Bradshaw, Robin
Eckert, Anna Lisa Hoepfinger, Cheri Drummond, Toni Ferguson, Katherine
Mansouri, Sherry
Merideth, and Dana Meyer sent students from their studios and lead the
pieces performed.
Crystal Plohman lead the fiddle tunes, Cannon/TamLyn & Oh Susanna that she
arranged for this
year’s MTSA Annual Meeting and Spring Play-In. The students sounded terrific
in the beautiful
marble concert hall lobby. Deidre Bacco and Anna Lisa Hoepfinger organized
this event for the
MTSA and the Nashville Symphony. The next FREE DAY OF MUSIC Event is
scheduled for Oct.
1, 2011, returning in the Fall, after being displaced during the concert
hall’s extensive flood
renovations. The MTSA hopes to be invited back.
